Salt Lake City, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- The Salt Lake City Police Department received a $15,000 to promote bicycle and pedestrian safety.

The Bicycle Pedestrian Safety Grant was awarded to the SLCPD by The Utah Highway Safety Office of the Utah Department of Public Safety.

SLCPD plans to use this money to educate the public through several events. These events will include crosswalk enforcement and bike safety rodeos where they will distribute free helmets, bicycle lights and visibility gear.

This grant is a great way to educate the public and increase safety in Salt Lake City.

Between 2011-2013 there was a yearly average of 839 bicycle/motor vehicle collisions and 909 pedestrians struck by motor vehicles.
