ST. GEORGE (News4Utah) – Eight arrests this week by the the St. George Police Department after conducting a sting operation focusing on sexual solicitation.
Seven men and one woman were arrested after undercover investigators posted online advertisements.
“When we conduct these types of operations it’s generally because we have information that they’re needed, whether it’s an increase in someone trying to provide those services in our city or there’s an increase in people trying to locate those services,” said Lona Trombley with the St. George Police Department.
Seven men were arrested for patronizing a prostitute and a woman arrested for sexual solicitation. The operation was done with the help of the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to help stop human trafficking.
“With incidents such as this, our main goal is to find people who are victims of human trafficking. Because ultimately it’s the people who are having to perform these acts against their will that we’re trying to help,” said Trombley.
Trombley says no community is immune to human trafficking, and hopes citizens will educate
themselves so they can help. “There’s a website, which gives a helpline, gives a list of signs to watch for, and if you see something that you think falls into that criteria, call, let us know, let us investigate,” said Trombley.
