MAGNA, Utah (ABC4 News) – Several people were evacuated after a car hit a gas meter and caused a gas leak in Magna early Thursday morning.

Lt. Brian Lohrke, Unified Police, said a car hit a home near 8381 West 2910 South just before 4:30 a.m. and damaged the gas meter attached to the home. The subsequent gas leak forced authorities to evacuate homes along 2900 South and shut down a portion of 8400 West.

Lohrke said the driver of the vehicle appeared to be suffering a psychotic episode and believed people had been following her when she crashed. The woman, and a man who jumped a fence to help her received minor injuries, no one else was injured. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. Lohrke said they have had interactions with the woman in the past.

Drivers are  now able to access 8400 West and people were being let back into their homes around 6 a.m.
