SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – The injury bug has bitten the Utah Jazz once again.
Second team all-NBA center Rudy Gobert will miss the next 4 to 6 weeks after an MRI revealed a contusion on his right tibia.
Gobert was injured in Friday night’s loss to Miami, after Dion Waiters rolled into Gobert during the third quarter. Gobert was able to finish the game, but sat out Saturday’s win over Brooklyn.
The 7-foot-1-inch center is currently averaging 13.9 points, 10.5 rebounds and a league-best 2.5 blocks per game in his fifth NBA season. The Frenchman has totaled eight double-doubles on the year and dating back to last season has totaled 244 blocks, the most in the NBA during that span.
Derrick Favors picked up the slack against the Nets, scoring 24 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
Ekpe Udoh is expected to see more playing time while Gobert is out.
