SANDY, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – Real Salt Lake’s 3-game home winning streak came to an end with a 1-0 loss to former RSL head coach Jason Kreis and Orlando City, 1-0.
Former Real Salt Lake midfielder Will Johnson put in a rebound in the 17th minute for the only goal the game. Off a free kick by Kaka, Jose Aja’s header hit the crossbar, and RSL could not clear the ball. After it drifted out to Johnson, he had a clear shot and scored his second goal of the season.
RSL had several chances to level the match, but could only put two shots on frame the entire game.
“Not only did we not convert them, but some of them we completely missed, we completely whiffed on,” said head coach Mike Petke. “The possession we had, the danger we had. I will give credit to Jason’s team though.”
Real falls to 5-12-2 on the year, and now face the prospect of picking up their second road win of the season Saturday against the L.A. Galaxy.
“We were unlucky that we couldn’t find the back of the net and get a win,” said forward Brooks Lennon. “It’s frustrating night overall, but we’ve got a quick turnaround, we play on the 4th, so we’ve got to get ready for that.”
