River Otters Celebrate 7th Birthday at Living Planet Aquarium

DRAPER, Utah (ABC4 News) Three North American river otters got to celebrate their seventh birthday Sunday at Living Planet Aquarium.

Oscar, Oliver, and Otis even got a special ice cake as spectators sang Happy Birthday to the brothers.

The trio of otters have been part of the Loveland Living Planet family since 2012 after being brought from an aquarium in New York.

The otters are housed in the Discover Utah gallery in an exhibit made possible by the George S. and Dolores Dolé Eccles Foundation.

River otters were once found rampant throughout Utah waterways in the 1830’s. However, they began to disappear from Utah’s rivers and streams due to habitat degradation, water pollution, and unregulated trapping during settlement times.

Guests were invited to join in the celebration and use the opportunity to learn more about the otters.

The otters’ birthday celebration kicks off Birthday Week at the Aquarium, March 5 – 11. During this week, Aquarium guests can enter to win exciting prizes daily including a birthday party for 20, a Penguin Encounter, and a $50 gift card.
