WASHINGTON COUNTY (News4Utah) – Strong storms brought heavy rain and flooding to Washington County Thursday evening.
Washington County Emergency Services reported flooding in the Dammeron Valley area. Due to the heavy rain and mudflow in the area, portions of State Road 18 near Dammeron Valley became impassable.
Utah Highway Patrol and Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area along with resources from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Washington County Roads Department to clear the roadway. The roadway cleared for passing traffic just before 7 p.m. Officials suggested motorists avoid travel in the area unless it is necessary.
Volunteers from the community including the Washington County Search and Rescue responded to assist with damage assessment and filling sandbags for the affected residents.
Washington County Emergency Services said it confirmed flooding at 18 homes in the Dammeron Valley with no injuries reported. The agency is working to determine if any families have been displaced by the flooding.
