LITTLE ROCK, AR — According to the Arkansas House of Representatives, Representative Justin Harris has asked to step down from his position as Vice Chair of the Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative & Military Affairs house committee, effective immediately.

He will also step down from the Joint Performance Review Committee.

“We are focused very much on finishing out this session very strongly,” Arkansas Speaker of the House Jeremy Gillam said. “With that in mind…Representative Harris has asked that I find a new Vice Chair for the committee…so that that committee can do its job.”

Gillam says the committee oversees the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) and makes sure that things are handled appropriately within that agency.

“This is about the process and the functionality of the committees and making sure that we finish out strong,” Gillam said.

Gillam hopes to have a replacement for Harris named by Wednesday, March 18.
