SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – May 2019 was a big month for organ donation, according to Donor Connect, an organization that facilitates, coordinates, registers, and advocates for donors and donor families in the Mountain West.

Donor Connect said a record number of people said yes to donation saving the lives of 71 people.

The month of May saw a large increase in the number of families, who when faced with an unexpected tragedy, chose to help others by saying yes to organ, eye and tissue donation.

Prior to May, the largest number of life-saving organ donors in one month at Donor Connect, previously Intermountain Donor Services, was 16. In May 2019, the organization recovered organs from a record 21 people and were able to transplant 71 organs from those donors.

Registering your wishes to be an organ, eye, and tissue donor is as simple as marking yes on the application when you receive your driver license or state ID card. You can also register and access additional information online at www.yesutah.org.
