SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Utah) – A 34-year old man allegedly tried covering up his tracks.
Jose Cazares-Montalvo is accused of 12-counts of rape. His alleged victim is a 15-year old girl.
“He would messenger her on Facebook to setup a rendezvous,” said Salt Lake’s District Attorney, Sim Gill.
Over the course of a year, prosecutors claimed Cazares-Montalvo had sex with the minor.
“He had sex with her a couple of times a month for the last year,” said Gill.
But when she became pregnant, prosecutors said she was brought to Planned Parenthood in Salt Lake in hopes of getting an abortion.
Court documents show they were denied three times. Under state law only a biological parent or legal guardian can authorize an abortion for a minor.
Charging documents claimed Cazares-Montalvo came up with another idea.
“She was pregnant and there was some liquid that was provided to induce a miscarriage or a natural abortion,” said Gill.
But the mother ‘found a plastic bottle in (her daughter’s) room that she discovered was used to induce an abortion,” said court documents.
The mother soon learned of her daughter’s secret rendezvous over the past year at his South Salt Lake home.
Gill said the teen felt trapped.
“She was fearful that he threatened to harm her and her family if she did not engage in sexual contact,” Gill said.
