(ABC4) – Joe Biden has been inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States. Here’s a look at some of the events of the day in photos.

The President, Vice President, and their spouses participate in a ‘Parade Across America’ after visiting Arlington National Cemetery. Pres. Joe Biden is expected to sign numerous Executive Orders following this parade.

Before traveling to Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Commander in Chief, first lady, vice president, and second gentleman watched military pass in a review ceremony on the East Front of the Capitol.

President, First Lady presented with painting, photographs in rotunda while license plates changed to reflect new presidency

As part of the continuing Inauguration Day, President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden were presented with a painting. While in the rotunda, photographs from the Inauguration Ceremony were also presented.

Officials also had to transfer the license plates of the motorcade to reflect the new presidency.

Vice President Kamala Harris, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff see off former Vice President Mike Pence, Second Lady Karen Pence

While former President Donald Trump wasn’t in attendance, former Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, were at the inauguration. Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug, saw the Pences off after the ceremony.

The Pences will return to their hometown of Columbus, Indiana.

Security remains heavy around the Capitol during

While the Inauguration Ceremony continues, security remains heavy across Washington D.C. Since the riot in early January, National Guardsmen and law enforcement have remained on high alert in our nation’s capitol.

Shortly after 8 a.m. MT, guests can be seen arriving ahead of the ceremony at the US Capitol as the US Marine band performs.

Among arriving guests are the Obamas, the Clintons, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Senator-elect Jon Ossoff (D-GA).

Preparations underway, including guests arriving

While the Trumps were departing, preparations were underway in and around the White House for the 59th Inauguration Ceremony. This includes security standing ready, final touches for guests, and Lady Gaga arrives.

President-elect Joe Biden, incoming First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, and numerous others attended Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle.

Other attendees included Sen. Mitch McConnell, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump depart DC for Florida

President Donald Trump departed the White House for the final time as president early Wednesday, just hours before President-elect Joe Biden takes the oath of office.

Trump emerged from the building Wednesday morning and strode across the South Lawn to board Marine One. He said, “It’s been a great honor, the honor of a lifetime.”
