SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – Elected officials from rural Utah counties are on Capitol Hill pushing for the best interests of their communities.
Beaver County Commissioner Mark Whitney stops by Inside Utah Politics to discuss some of the top issues he’s been keeping an eye on.
One of the biggest challenges they’re looking to address is Payments in Lieu of Taxes, or PILT.
“We have a lot of country there to provide services to. Sheriff services, search and rescue, and road maintenance to keep those public lands open and accessible for the people. So, it takes a lot out of our general fund to manage those lands,” said Whitney.
He also talks about shrinking of our national monuments and why he thinks this is a good decision.
