SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – Representative Chris Stewart is seeking his fourth term in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District.
Stewart stopped by this week’s Inside Utah Politics to discuss some of the key issues the state is facing and explain why he decided to run again.
“Conservative principles are the only thing that can save our country and keep our economy growing and to continue to provide jobs and income. It’s the only thing that can continue to recognize that the primary responsibility of federal government is to keep us safe. Also building our military, defeating ISIS and regulatory reform are all things that matter. It’s these things that I hope to continue to make happen,” said Stewart.
One of the big issues that Stewart is addressing is tax reform.
“We told the American people this is tax reform and this is what will happen. We have seen that verified now in the 4.1 percent economic growth the last quarter. It’s been a generation since we saw something like that and that is good news for everyone. This is some of the lowest unemployment we’ve seen in generations and the lowest ever recorded for minorities. And we’re very, very proud of it,” said Stewart.
Stewart believes another reason he’s the right candidate is due to his experience on the Intelligence Committee. He and his colleagues closed the investigation into Russian meddling an outcome of which he says he’s pleased with for now.
“If we found meaningful evidence that would require us to ask additional questions, we would do that. But we haven’t seen anything like that at this point,” Stewart said.
He also addresses the issue of healthcare and his approach to this year’s election campaign.
