SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah)- A mother and daughter are hoping to take over a pair of seats in the Utah House of Representatives.
Democratic District 16 candidate Cheryl Nunn and her daughter democratic District 17 candidate Dawn Nunn stop by Inside Utah Politics to discuss why they decided to run at the same time.
“We are the first mother-daughter team to run and that’s pretty exciting,” said Dawn. “We actually made the decision on the same day, but separately.”
It was Dawn who actually inspired Cheryl to think about running in the first place.
“Dawn had mentioned a couple of weeks prior that she was running and she said why don’t you think about it too. I thought about it and I wasn’t going to until two days before the filing deadline when I was told that no one was running in my district as far as a democrat or opposition to the incumbent,” said Cheryl.
One area these women both hope to address together is living wages and affordable housing within the state.
“I think we really need to pay attention to the living wage here in Utah. We’ve had several opportunities to actually look at that, and study it and yet our legislators seem to fall short on that end,” said Dawn.
