SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) –The Democratic 1st Congressional District race is coming down the stretch.
Candidate Lee Castillo stops by Inside Utah Politics to explain why he wants the opportunity to take on representative Bishop in November.
“This is my first run. I felt a calling to step in because of the divisive rhetoric that’s going on in Washington and that drew me to enter the race,” said Castillo.
One of the big issues that Castillo has been campaigning on is healthcare. He says that he would like to see Bernie Sander’s universal healthcare bill passed.
“I think we should repeal the tax cuts for the 1% and the wealthy and allow the middle class to have that and with that surplus of the taxes utilize that to fund the government program,” said Castillo.
Castillo says the thing that sets him apart from his opponent is that he is willing to listen and find the right solutions.
“This seat used to be a democratic seat. We can’t do the same play. We need young blood, we need somebody who listens. I’m a social worker and I have a master’s degree from the University of Utah. I’m trained to listen and then to find a solution, where as my opponent is not,” Castillo said.
