Police: Teens charged after violent attempted carjacking in WVC

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- West Valley police are investigating a violent attempted carjacking involving teens, one as young as 14 years old. 

It happened outside of a Smith’s at 4700 South 4000 West around 3:45 a.m.

The victim told police he had pulled over to take a nap. He woke up to several people pounding on his window demanding the keys. Police later said the victim and three suspects “exchanged looks and words” before the altercation. 

Police said the suspects smashed open his window and beat him while he was inside the car. 

The suspects tried to take off, but police say the victim rammed their car with his own, severely damaging it. 

The suspects took off on foot and police, with the help of K-9’s, later found them nearby.

West Valley police are also investigating a shots fired in the same area. Originally, they said the two incidents might be connected. Later, they found the two incidents to be unrelated. 

Three teens, ages 14, 15 and 17 were all arrested. Police said another female was detained but later released.
