Police Looking For Pair Behind Maverik Attempted Armed Robbery

News

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a Maverik gas station at 1707 S., 300 W in Salt Lake City.

Police say witnesses noticed the two suspects head into the Maverik.  Police say they were two Hispanic males, wearing bandana and appeared to be in their early 20’s.  Police got the call about the incident around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

As they headed inside one went towards the beer cooler, the other towards the cashier where he pointed a gun at his face.

ABC4 News spoke with the cashier who couldn’t speak on camera because of corporate rules but said once the man pointed the gun at him he says he noticed it wasn’t loaded because “it didn’t sound right.”

He then took the gun away from the man and the two got into a scuffle.  The one at the beer cooler took off.  The other also took off and left behind the gun and his t-shirt.

The cashier says after the fight he picked up the gun and threw it away in the trash until police arrived and took it as evidence.

Police also took surveillance video from the scene to investigate the incident and get a better idea and picture of who the suspects are.

This attempted robbery is still under investigation.  If you have any information you’re asked to contact police.
