Police identify 21-year-old killed after shooting in Salt Lake City on Sunday

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Police have identified the 21-year-old man who died after being shot in Salt Lake City early Sunday morning.

According to Unified Police Detective Mallory, an individual called 911 around 12:30 a.m. to report a man lying on the ground in front of the car wash at 3900 South 635 West.

Medical arrived and transported the victim, identified as Manuel Felipe Gonzalez-Cortez, to an area hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Detective Mallory said there appears to not be any witnesses to the shooting. And they do not have any suspects at this time.

Detectives are trying to follow leads, including looking for surveillance video in the area.

3900 South is a pretty busy road, and there is a reasonable amount of traffic, but there is not a lot of activity around there that time of night, according to Detective Mallory.

The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. An update on the shooting will be provided once additional information is released.
