Police: Child found in vehicle with adults passed out on drugs

LEHI, Utah (ABC4 News) — A man and woman were arrested on Monday after police conducted a welfare check at a Maverik gas station near 1075 South 1100 West.

Officers received reports of a car alarm going off at the gas station, and when they arrived, they found a gray hatchback vehicle parked in front of the dumpster with two unresponsive adults inside, along with the couple’s 5-year-old son, documents state.

According to police, they were able to eventually wake the pair up and confirm their identities as, Allan Terry, 30 and Ciara Curtis, 31, according to documents. 

Police said because they suspected drug use, a K-9 officer was called to the scene.  During a search of the vehicle officers found a small bag of a crystaline substance and two large hunting knives. 

Terry told police the two had used methamphetamine the night before.

Curtis and Terry are facing third-degree felony child endangerment and misdemeanor charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia and Terry faces an additional charge for possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

A background check shows Terry is a convicted felon and has a very extensive criminal history including several arrests for retail theft and additional charges of forgery, theft by deception, making a false credit report, assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child, drug possession and giving false information to a police officer. 

Curtis has multiple misdemeanor offenses including several arrests for retail theft and one charge of criminal mischief.
