BOUNTIFUL, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Neighbors of Chris Riley claimed his home was a magnet for young men.
But they thought Riley’s visitors were of age.
“Whatever floats your boat in life but when it comes to a minor or a relationship with a minor when you’re an older person, that’s totally inappropriate,” said Julie who didn’t want her identity revealed.
Bountiful police arrested Riley Tuesday for having unlawful sex with a minor and dealing in harmful materials with an underage boy.
“Originally this case started back in November,” said Lt. Dave Edwards with Bountiful police.
That’s when Riley became the focus of a police investigation. But Edwards said the questionable texts found by the mother on her son’s cell phone were not enough to arrest him.
A few weeks ago police said the mother again brought them the son’s iPod.
“Detectives division did a forensic analysis of the phone and found thousands of images on it,” said Lt. Edwards. “Some of which they found to be evidence of a crime.”
According to a probable cause statement filed by police, the images were of Riley and the teen performing sexual acts. Police claimed the two were having sex in Riley’s home since last fall.
The probable cause statement claimed the victim told police they had sex “on more than twenty occasions since their relationship began.”
Police say the victim provided details about the layout of the residence, describing the suspect’s bedroom and basement were alleged sex acts where performed.
Bountiful police said the two met on a Craigslist website. The site does require visitors to be 18 years or older. But police claim the teen managed to get through that obstacle. And once they met, Police said the two realized they live in the same town.
“It saddens my heart that there are people out there that are predators that can coerce and manipulate children into doing things that they don’t really understand,” said the neighbor.
Police are also concerned there may be other victims of Riley. They’re urging anyone with information to contact their offices at 801-298-6000.
Riley remained in the Davis County jail. Bail has not been set and charges are pending.
