Police: 7-month-old abducted by registered sex offender in Virginia

DANVILLE, Va. (AP) — An Amber Alert has been issued for a 7-month-old girl who police say was abducted by a registered sex offender at a gas station in Virginia.

News outlets cite the alert issued by Virginia State Police, which says Emma Grace Kennedy and 51-year-old Carl Ray Kennedy could be headed to North Carolina, following the Sunday night kidnapping.

According to the alert, Carl Kennedy was armed with a knife when he assaulted the infant’s mother at a Kwik Stop and took the girl. The child is believed to be in extreme danger.

WAVY sister station WFXR reports Carl Kennedy is the girl’s father. State police tell WFXR Emma’s mother met with Carl Kennedy at the Kwik Stop to talk about custody and visitation issues when the encounter turned violent.

Authorities say Carl Kennedy is registered as a sex offender in North Carolina, and is currently out of jail on a $250,000 bond for drug distribution.

He is described as a white male with gray hair, green eyes, is 5 foot 8 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a brown shot sleeve shirt with gray shorts and black and white Sketchers shoes.

Police say Carl Kennedy has several tattoos that could help identify him.

This includes skull tattoos on both of his forearms — one of which has a bandana over the mouth. On the back of his right hand, he has a tattoo of an eye as well as a pitbull on his right upper arm, with “American bulldog” written under it.

Police say he also has a tattoo of a wizard on his upper left arm.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to contact the Danville Police Department at 1-434-799-5111 or Virginia State Police at 1-800-822-4453.
