Pair arrested after high speed chase in Iron County

IRON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) Two people were arrested after a police pursuit in a stolen car.

Tatiana Chavez, 24, of West Valley City and Gabriel Lopez, 33, of Murray were booked into the Iron County Jail Monday.

Deputies with Iron County Sheriff’s Office say they spotted a reported stolen vehicle a 2013 Lincoln MKS, on Interstate 15 headed south around 2 a.m.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled. The suspect vehicle hit speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

The car exited the freeway near the north end of Parowan. It vehicle continued for a short time before running off the road. The occupants, deputies say, took off on foot.

With the help of a Utah Highway Patrol K9, the suspects were found about a half mile from the car and taken into custody.

Chavez and Lopez were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to stop at the command of an officer/ fleeing.
