UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- An overdue hiker was found dead in American Fork Canyon Thursday morning.

Officials say 60-year-old Arthur Wayne Wiseman left his home in Cedar Hills Wednesday just after 5 p.m. to go on a small hike.

His family became concerned when he did not arrive home on time.

They searched the Mineral Basin area for several hours. Thursday morning around 4 a.m. the family decided to call Search and Rescue crews for help.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon with Utah County Sheriff’s Office said before the crews even had a chance to begin searching, a hiker in the area called and reported a body found on a trail near the Silver Lake Flat Road at Tibble Fork reservoir.

The body was confirmed to be that of Wiseman.

“Mr. Wiseman appeared to have stopped and had taken off his gloves and glasses. He did not appear to have sustained trauma and circumstances in this case are not suspicious,” a press release from the Sheriff’s Office said.

The official cause of Wiseman’s death is under investigation.
