Officials: Fire in Box Elder County was human-caused


BOX ELDER COUNTY (News4Utah) – Crews responded to a fire in Box Elder County Wednesday, June 27, 2018. 

Fire officials said the “Rough Fire” in Broad Canyon is estimated at 5,400 acres and as of Friday evening it was 80% contained. 

Firefighters estimate full containment by Tuesday. 

Multiple county, state and federal agencies are responding to the situation including crews from Portage, Plymouth, Fielding, Garland, Tremonton, Box Elder County, Forest Service, and Utah Division of Fire Forestry and State Lands.

About 80 people are fighting the fire. 

The fire has been confirmed to be human-caused. The investigation into exactly how it was started is ongoing.
