CACHE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Cache County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed one person had died after a house explosion in Cache County on Thursday.

Police say around midnight the combined group of firefighters located a third person inside the home just after midnight. The person was previously unaccounted for but has since been confirmed to have died in the explosion.

“Our sincerest of condolences to family and friends of the victims involved,” Cache County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

CACHE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Two people reportedly suffered critical injuries following a house explosion in Cache County on Thursday, March 9. A third person believed to be in the house at the time remains unaccounted for.

According to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to 5670 N State Route 23 on reports of a house explosion at about 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Initial reports indicated there were three people in the residence, officials said. When first responders arrived, they reportedly located one person outside the home and another could be heard inside the home yelling for help.

The press release states that rescue units transported the person outside the home to Cache Valley Hospital in critical condition. They then rescued the person inside the home at 6:32 p.m. and sent them to Logan Regional Hospital in critical condition.

Multiple emergency units have responded to secure the scene and fight the fire, which has been classified as a two-alarm fire.

As of 10:09 p.m., firefighters are still trying to find the third person believed to be in the residence, according to the press release.

A neighbor reportedly saw the explosion and said he could smell propane. Another neighbor said they saw pieces of the house a couple hundred yards away on their property.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. No information on the identity of the residents has been released.

The Utah State Fire Marshal has been requested to help with the investigation.

Newton Fire, Logan Fire, Clarkston Fire, Trenton Fire, Smithfield Fire, Lewiston Fire, Mendon Fire, Franklin County Idaho Fire, Cache County Fire, and the Cache County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
