ST. GEORGE (News4Utah) There was lingering excitement in Southern Utah after the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Russell M. Nelson announced a new temple would be built in Washington County.

Monday morning, church members said they were very pleased by the president’s announcement, with many saying it was a sign of Southern Utah’s growth.

Paul Smuian is a resident of Hurricane. He was watching General Conference Sunday and noted he was “elated” that President Nelson chose to build in Washington County.

Others mirrored Smuian’s thoughts, saying they thought that Southern Utah showed impressive signs of growth and the St. George temple can get crowded from time to time.

The temple was one of 12 announced by President Nelson at General Conference Sunday.
