(WFLA) – A Tennessee mother is warning others about eating hot and spicy snacks after her daughter had to have her gallbladder removed.
Rene Craighead told WREG in Memphis she believes the hot snacks caused stomach problems for her 17-year-old daughter.
“She loves them. Every time I go out she says, ‘Bring me back some Hot Takis, bring me back some Hot Chips.’ I want to maker her happy, so I brought them back. She was eating big bags and would take them to school with her,” Craighead told WREG.
The teen estimated she ate about four bags of the spicy snacks every week.
A gastroenterologist at the Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital told WREG the hospital treats a lot of kids for stomach problems caused by hot snacks like Cheetos, Takis and Hot Fries.
“We probably see around 100 kids a month, easily,” said Dr. Cary Canvender.
