Local filmmaker tells story of parents’ divorce and having a homosexual father

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah(News4Utah) Principal photography of a new short film LONG HAUL from local filmmaker Bryan Fugal is set to begin in June. It’s a coming-of-age road drama set in the world of American long-haul trucking. The main character, an ultra-conservative teen based on Fugal’s personal experiences, goes on a cross-country delivery job with his estranged father. During the journey, the son struggles with his parents’ divorce and discovering that his father is gay.

Fugal says the story is mostly autobiographical, based on his own family and father, but is very relevant to our time. The screenplay was a finalist in several screenplay competitions, including the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards, ScreenCraft, and the Davey Foundation Showcase.

Due to the positive response, Fugal plans to submit the short film to a variety of film festivals, including Sundance and Cannes, with the goal of expanding into a full-length feature film.
