Independent bookstores are struggling, but you can help

Local author Michael Chidsey, along with illustrator Christian Madsen are releasing two children’s books this month.

The titles are “Today You Learn to Ride Your Bike” and “Thaddeus The Happiest Little Mountain Goat Ever”. “Thaddeus The Happiest Little Mountain Goat Ever” tells the story of a little goat who learns the grass really isn’t greener somewhere else.  “Today You Learn to Ride Your Bike” is about a boy and his adventures on two wheels.

Chidsey is working with Salt Lake’s The King’s English Bookshop and IndieBound to release them.

Through this group all sales of the books will benefit local, independent bookstores around the country.

Big chain book stores can make it hard for many independent bookstores to survive.  But IndieBound works directly with independent bookstores and the American Booksellers Association to give them a way to sell online so they can survive against large franchises.  It’s all about “local first” shopping and allows consumers to make their actions part of a larger picture.
