BRIAN HEAD (ABC4 News) – A man was hospitalized with “traumatic injuries” after a snowmobile crash near Brian Head Sunday afternoon.
Brian Head Public Safety Department received a call of a snowmobile crash with injuries on the south side of Brian Head Peak in the area east of Hwy 143.
Emergency personnel responded to the location on snowmobiles equipped with a rescue sled. With the help of several witnesses, they located the victim, a 46-year-old man from Las Vegas, at the bottom of a natural drainage area covered in snow.
During the single snowmobile crash, the man sustained “major traumatic injuries to his lower extremities,” officials said. He was airlifted to a trauma center in St. George.
Officials said it did not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. They point to excess speed, flat light, and uneven terrain as possible factors in the crash.
