SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – The Lone Peak defense dominated Pleasant Grove in the 6A semifinals, and the Knights are now one win away from its first state title in 7 years.
The Knights intercepted four passes on their way to a 29-0 blowout over the Vikings, and will face another Region 4 rival, American Fork, in the 6A title game.
“I don’t think I was too surprised,” said Lone Peak linebacker Michael Daley. “I just knew coming in if we did the game plan, then we’d come out with a win. That’s what we were able to do, and the goose egg held up on the scoreboard tonight.”
The Knights blocked a punt in the second quarter, and recovered on the one-yard line, setting up their first touchdown of the game, a one-yard run by Davis Child.
Lone Peak took control in the third quarter, scoring two touchdown runs by Child and Kobe Freeman, and the defense did the rest.
Brock McChesney returned an interception 42 yards for the clinching touchdown, as the Knights racked up five sacks to go along with five turnovers.
“Our defense is incredible,: Freeman said. “I said it last week, they were talking about our defensive line, and they are the best in the state and I will continue to say that. Our defense is incredible.”
In the championship game next Friday, Lone Peak will be looking to avenge a 51-21 loss to American Fork back in September.
