Utah Red Cross installing smoke alarms for free in homes across the Wasatch Front

Local (Wasatch Front)

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- For the last two weeks volunteers and local partners have been canvassing neighborhoods installing free smoke alarms, replacing batteries in existing alarms, and helping families create escape plans.

According to the Red Cross every day, seven people die in home fires, most of them are in homes that lack working smoke alarms.

In an effort to improve the odds and save lives the American Red Cross launched a campaign called Sound the Alarm during the month of May.

As part of the campaign the Red Cross here in Utah is now installing free smoke alarms to anyone who requests them with absolutely no cost or obligation.  Everyone qualifies to participate in this free ongoing program.

The Utah Red Cross will install up to three alarms and check the batteries in your current alarms.

The 24-hour free smoke alarm hotline is 801-323-7022.
