30-year-old woman hit by police cruiser

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- A Millcreek woman is recovering after an officer hit her with their patrol car.

It happened at around 1:30  a.m. near 2900 South State Street. Police say the 30-year-old woman was hit by the patrol vehicle after she stepped off of a curb. They say the area was not well lit and the officer didn’t see her in time.

The woman’s condition has improved to stable.

Police said the officer was “shaken up,” but did not sustain any injuries himself. His cruiser was badly damaged in the accident, a spokesman with the police department said.

The officer was being tested for impairment, which is standard protocol after an officer-involved incident.

Police said it is still unclear why the woman was trying to cross State Street without a crosswalk.
