RIVERTON (News4Utah) – A young boy was injured in an auto-pedestrian crash Friday evening.
Police said a 7-year-old boy was hit by a car at 12600 South 2700 West at 5:45 p.m. Friday.
The boy was riding a purple scooter when he was struck. He was flown to the hospital in “very, very critical condition,” according to Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera.
Immediately following the crash, police sought help from the public finding the boy’s parents. They released information to the media and used a public emergency alert system to notify residents in the area. After about an hour, the parents were reached.
The driver was cooperative after the crash — pulling over as the investigation evolved.
“We don’t want to judge what went on here. But what we can do is try to prevent it from happening again. And what I would say is if you’re going to have your kids on scooters and skateboards and rollerblades, they cannot go into the traffic lanes,” said Rivera.
