UPDATE: The deceased has been identified by officials as Travis Stoddard.

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – Construction crews made a tragic discovery in a Downtown office building Tuesday morning: the deceased body of one of their coworkers.

Salt Lake City Police say that the 33-year-old man was doing some electrical work Monday at the Utah State Archives Building at 346 South Rio Grande Street and his family became concerned when he didn’t come home from work Monday night.

Around 6:30 Tuesday morning members of the construction crew found his body near a 1st-floor refrigeration unit.

“There were clear indications there that he had suffered electrocution and that was the cause of death,” Sgt. Brandon Shearer of the Salt Lake City Police Department told News4Utah. “He was working in an area of the building where he was out of the way and out of the view of everyone else so no one saw what occurred or saw where he was until this morning when they went to try and locate him.”

Despite calling it a “tragic accident”, officers are required to conduct a thorough investigation.

“Anytime there’s a death we respond and make sure there’s nothing suspicious or nothing criminal,” Sgt. Shearer said. “We wanted to make sure that first of all there wasn’t a crime that had occurred and second of all just to do a report on what we observed and could see.”

The SLCPD will turn over their report to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for use in their investigation.
