SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News) – A woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car as she attempted to cross Bangerter Highway Friday morning.

Sgt. Sam Winkler, South Jordan Police, said the incident happened just before 6 a.m. when a white passenger car was traveling south on Bangerter Highway and 11400 South when a 58-year-old woman ran eastbound across the lanes and into the path of the oncoming car.

Winkler said the woman received serious injuries but they do not consider them to be life threatening. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Right now police are unsure why the woman darted across the street as they have not been able to talk to her.

Bangerter Highway southbound was closed for about an hour as crews investigated the incident. All lanes are now back open.
