Woman jumps from balcony to escape apartment fire

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) –  One woman was injured after a fire broke out at an apartment complex early Wednesday morning.

It happened near 1600 West Snow Queen Place in Salt Lake City around 2 a.m., authorities say.

Crews say the fire started on the 3rd floor of the apartment building forcing about 60 people to evacuate their homes. In total 40 people were displaced, officials say. The Red Cross is helping displaced victims find shelter.

Firefighters say one woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after jumping off of a balcony. Another person was also injured, but the details behind the injury have not been released.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
