JUAB COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) A 39-year-old Salem woman is dead after she was hit by a semi Wednesday evening.

Utah Highway Patrol says a Honda Pilot was traveling north on Interstate 15. Near milepost 229 the front passenger of the Pilot removed her seat belt and attempted to exit the vehicle.

The driver pulled the Pilot to the right shoulder and stopped as he was trying to keep the passenger inside the vehicle. The passenger exited the Pilot as it came to a stop, ran around the back of it and ran into the roadway in front of a northbound semi.

The semi attempted to stop but was unable to do so before hitting the woman.

She was killed on impact. Northbound I-15 was closed at milepost 228 and traffic was routed onto county roads to the 233 I-15 on-ramp.

The closure lasted approximately an hour and a half.  The woman was identified as Emily Dyches, 39, of Salem.
