UPDATE: Initially police reported the woman’s death was suspicious, but Wednesday investigators said they no longer believe the cause of death is suspicious.

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News) – Police in South Jordan are investigating the death of a woman found dead near park Tuesday morning.

The 26-year-old Riverton woman was found dead outside of her Jeep Liberty near 6000 West Lake Ave. around 8:30 a.m.

“To see something like this happen out here is shocking and disturbing, all at the same time.  And certainly feel terrible for the family and anybody that might have known this person,” said Cameron Jackson, Daybreak spokesperson.

Police released the name of the woman, but ABC4 News is withholding the information while investigators continue to notify her family.

Police say she was reported missing Monday night. Unified Police Department was initially investigating her disappearance. She was listed on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system around 12:30 a.m.

Investigators said the circumstances surrounding her death are suspicious. Her body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
