SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – Wanda Barzee may have moved out from her hotel in South Salt Lake.
The woman who served 15 years in prison for the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart was released Wednesday and according to state records, she was to stay at a hotel in South Salt Lake.
Wednesday afternoon a freelance photographer took several pictures of Barzee entering the hotel with what’s believed to be a federal agent.
“She’s not here anymore,” said the woman who claimed to be the manager for the Intown Suites. “Honest, she is not here anymore.”
Corporate officials for Intown Suites in Georgia would not confirm that information.
TMZ, a tabloid website, reported that Barzee had a religious episode overnight that caused others in the hotel to become concerned.
But a spokesman for South Salt Lake police said the report was baseless because they could not confirm any disturbance from the hotel.
There was a call made to police dispatch about a public disturbance at around seven a.m. but police said that call was originated by TMZ.
Police said they never came to the hotel because the alleged complainant never called the police and the hotel never returned their call.
But part of the conditions of Barzee’s probation included a temporary place to stay until a permanent home could be found for her. It’s unclear whether Barzee is now at that new location.
If Barzee is somewhere else, it’s not reflected on the Utah sex offender registry where her profile is posted. Her address continues to list this hotel in South Salt Lake. But under state law, all sex offenders must notify the state of their address and any changes they make.
