SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A Salt Lake mother and her son are speaking out after the 19-year-old’s wheelchair was stolen last week.
Andrea Carbine mother of Rhett Carbine said she went out to her S-U-V Wednesday morning and noticed things were a bit off.
When she looked inside she noticed her son Rhett’s wheelchair and oxygen tank racks had been stolen.
Rhett was born with a rare genetic disorder; his oxygen tanks and wheelchair gave him independence. Andrea says she has no idea who would do such a thing.
Andrea says police told her someone may have taken the chair for the electric parts. She says she’s still shocked that the person who did this left behind the actual oxygen tanks.
Shriners Hospital was able to put together a replacement wheelchair until they can recover or replace the stolen one.
