PROVO (ABC4News) – Parents and concerned neighbors near Provo Peaks Elementary are working towards expanding the school zone surrounding their school and having two crosswalks put in, but are finding the red tape is miles long.
Students frequently cross 200 North to get to school, a connector street in Provo meant to be a thoroughfare for cars; that means there are no cross-walks and no stop signs.
Parents are feeling unsure about how to navigate the complicated process for change in the area, and first gathered on Facebook. They’ve garnered the attention of their Neighborhood Chairs, and plan on making these crosswalks the main topic of discussion at the January meeting before taking the matter to the School District and City Council.
Provo city has detailed the process of expanding safe walking routes here.
