WEST VALLEY CITY (News4Utah)- A 23-year-old man was charged with two counts of aggravated murder after shooting two people in the chest last month.
Police say on June 26th Kennedy Lund shot and killed 37-year-old Chasidy Gerber and 33-year-old Martin Barron.
“Witnesses report that there was no exchange between Lund and the pair, but that Lund opened fire, shooting Gerber and Barron and killing them both,” Roxeanne Vainuku, Public Information Officer for West Valley City Police said.
According to charging documents, when police arrived on scene at 1431 West 3350 South, they found a woman in front of the home with an AR-15. “She was directed to drop the weapon, and did so immediately,” documents state.
The woman explained to police she took the gun from Lund and that he was hiding in his father’s home, the documents state. Officers found him naked in the basement, records state. He was arrested with the help of his father, police said.
His father said shortly after he arrived home “a naked [Lund] came running across the street with an AR-15 rifle in his hand,” charging documents state. “Mr. Lund asked Kennedy to give him the gun, but as soon as Kennedy handed it to his father, Kennedy began to fight over the gun and two additional rounds were discharged into the garage floor and ceiling,” the probable cause reads.
At this time there is no known motive for the shooting.
