West High student arrested for bringing gun to school said he was ‘holding it for a friend’

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- A 9th grade student at West High School taken to juvenile detention Thursday after police say they were caught with a weapon at school.

Officers say they received a tip that the student had a gun. When the school resource officer confronted the student they found the weapon.

“He wasn’t even trying to conceal it,” officials with Salt Lake City School District said. 

The student told the resource officer he was “holding the gun for friend”, official said. 

He was booked into juvenile detention.
