Ways to Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – Today, Monday, January 15, the nation will honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Civil Rights icon would have been 89-years-old if he was alive today.

MLK Day is celebrated on the third Monday in January. This year, the holiday falls on his actual birthday.

Utahns will commemorate the day by taking part in service projects, rallies and marches.

Here are some events taking place around the Utah areas:

Sugar House/Westminster Rally and March

January 15 at 8:30 a.m. at Converse Hall, Westminster College

Members of the Sugar House and Westminster community join in solidarity on issues and matters related to justice, unity and diversity. The rally and march is a gathering on the campus of Westminster that will highlight the importance of promoting social justice and unity in America and abroad.

The University of Utah hosts its annual march and rally to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The march begins at East High School and ends at Kingsbury Hall on the U campus.

The march and rally is a way for youth, educators, businesses, organization, religious groups and the greater community to come together and march for equality and unity.  

Monday, January 15, 2018, 2:30 p.m.

The march and rally is part of a series of events the university is hosting to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.
