WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is under scrutiny by state auditors.
A review of the sheriff’s office and its search and rescue division cited questionable personal use of county property as well as inadequate oversight of donated funds.
The review comes after an anonymous complaint through the State Auditor’s Hotline program
“One of the things we saw was inadequate oversight of donated funds. And there were some funds that were donated for Search and Rescue that were treated as a fiduciary fund which we considered improper,” said John Dougall, State Auditor.
Washington County responded, saying it will make the recommended changes. The county also noted that keeping its donated search and rescue funds in a separate account “faithfully ensured those donated funds were accounted for.”
