SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – A man convicted of manslaughter in South Salt Lake is getting out of jail early. Raul Roberto Carrillo has been granted parole by the Utah Board of Pardons.
Carrillo, who is currently serving time in the Utah State Prison, faced 1-15 years for the manslaughter of Daniel Johnson. He won’t be serving all of that time because the prison says he is a changed man. According to the prison, Carrillo has received his GED and has acted as a model citizen.
The Utah Board of Pardons agreed with the prison and granted Carrillo early parole.
“I felt like I was victimized twice,” said Nancy Johnson, back in December. “Once by the murder of my son and then again by the justice system.”
“There will never be no justice for me. I will never get enough justice,” she added.
Brittany Johnson brought up the alleged mishandlings to Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill.
“We can’t wind back the clock but the system worked based on the evidence and the law that was presented. That is cold comfort to a parent that loses a loved one and I understand that,” Gill said.
Carrillo will be released on August 14, 2018.
