Wanted felon shot, killed by officers in downtown Salt Lake City identified

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) –Police shot and killed a wanted man Thursday night in downtown Salt Lake City.

The shooting happened around 10:30 near 300 South Denver Street in an alleyway, and involved members of Salt Lake City’s Metro Gang Unit, including officers from Saratoga Springs Police Dept. and Unified Police Dept. 

Police said the suspect, 23-year-old Andrey Tkachenko, was wanted on felony charges. He was shot after some sort of altercation with police and died on the way to the hospital. Another person was arrested at the scene.

It was unclear Thursday night the events surrounding the officer-involved shooting, but Sgt. Melody Gray did confirm one officer sustained a minor injury, though details were scarce.
