SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Some folks are lending a helping hand for students in the Granite School District this holiday season and we’re learning there are a lot of students in need.
“In a district of over 68,000 students, there are 65 percent living at or below poverty level. which is just incredible to think about,” said Brooke Porter with Granite Education Foundation.
Wednesday, volunteers filled thousands of sacks one by one with toys, blankets, books and more at a local version of Santa’s workshop. It’s all a part of the Granite School District’s Santa Sacks program.
The sacks are then loaded into the cars of social workers, ready to deliver them to students and families who need it the very most. They say without programs like this, many of these kids would go without gifts for the holidays.
