Vigil held for victims of child abuse in Salt Lake

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – On Sunday night, dozens of people gathered in Salt Lake to honor victims of child abuse.

Dawn Nieto is a mother who knows the pain of losing a child. Her daughter, Vanessa, was just 15 months old when she was killed in 1988.

For years, it was a cold case until Nieto found justice when the crime was solved a few years back.

The vigil included balloons and candles. The vigil was held Sunday night because the man convicted of abusing Vanessa is being sentenced in court later this week.

If you suspect child abuse or neglect is occurring, call the Child Abuse/Neglect Hotline 855.323.3237.
